World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth, was released for Mac and Windows on August 14, 2018. Battle for Azeroth picks right after the events that took place in the previous expansion.
Stopping the Legion’s crusade reignited the eternal conflict between Horde and Alliance. Now both factions have to travel to faraway lands to persuade the trolls from Zandalar and other races to join their cause. As can be expected from a World of Warcraft (WoW) expansion, Battle for Azeroth introduces new zones to explore, new World Bosses (taking a page from ‘s book), new raids and dungeons, new races and a new level cap of 120. There will be 6 new playable races in total, including the Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne, Void Elf, and Lightforged Draenei. Metal support I’m particularly interested to see how well this new version uses Apple’s Metal API. WoW’s previous expansion introduced Metal for the first time and generated spectacular improvements. According to, the Metal version was 66% faster than the OpenGL version. Apple has done a lot to improve Metal since, and hopefully, Battle for Azeroth brings even more improvements. I will test the game on all of our Macs as soon as possible.
